A New Brother in Christ

A small church meeting in Iraq was coming to a close.

John,* one of our workers, was saying his goodbyes and came across a man he had never met before. Though they didn’t know each other, the men embraced, and something about the encounter stuck with him. His short goodbye to this unknown man felt authentic and special

The next day, John heard the man’s story from a friend: this man was a new brother in Christ!

Serving Jesus hasn’t been easy for this new brother. His family, who is strongly against his new faith, has been persecuting him.

But this new brother is dedicated in his faith. His hunger for God’s word is so great that he hides a Bible in the countryside where he can read it in private. He comes faithfully to the church meeting even though he has to change taxis multiple times to get there without being followed.

His story just goes to show the enormous difference knowing Jesus can make in someone’s life.

Following Him really is work giving up everything, and it’s exciting for our team members who are investing their lives in the frontier places to see stories like this firsthand.

Would you join me today in praying for this new brother in Christ and the many like him the Arab world who are coming to Jesus? And please pray also for our workers in these area as they risk everything to share the gospel.

As we pray, may this story remind us when Jesus asks us to pick up our cross and follow Him, it really is worth it. Thanks for being a part of this community. We couldn’t do this without you.
